My biggest achievement thus far...

For the first time since I do not know when...
after weeks of crazy stress and chaos with my final fall semester and graduate school applications and still trying to manage a normal life...

I got my first 4.0 in college! I have always been .3 or .2 points of but finally I got the real deal!

Television

Shows you need to watch if you have not:

1. AMERICAN HORROR STORY

2. ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT
3. GIRLS

4. THE OFFICE (of course)
 5. PARKS & RECREATION

Honorable Mentions:

  • New Girl
  • The Mindy Project

They're good, but nothing compared to my top 5 favorites. So what are you doing? Sit down and get lazy and prepare to watch all seasons of these amazing shows!

Too Many Updates?

No such thing!

Directions to your heart

After finals, for the first time in ages I finally had the chance to spend time with the love of my life. We went to art galleries for first Friday, watched movies, and went out downtown. I realized over the almost three years (!!!), I have lost my charm, habit, and desire to .. How should I say... Cater? Please? Surprise? my boyfriend. I will try to work on that because Milan definitely has done his part to support me and make me happy.

Art

I have come to terms that I am not an artist and do not have the creativity nor the talent to make masterpieces. However, my roommate Lily IS and came up with the idea to paint canvases to decorate our dull apartment. One random night, after a full day of doing absolutely nothing as I suffered the world's worst hangover, Lily, Zach, and I painted our hearts out.

And you know what? I am not too shabby.

The long awaited Mayan prophecy that today will be "the end of the world." I have been waiting for this day since I learned about this in high school! Fortunately, this is just another misinterpretation and myth, the Earth is still well and round.

Congratulations!

Just received news that one of my best friends, Laura, is engaged! I have seen her and Jean evolve individually and as a couple for years, and I am happy to have shared many memories with them! I cannot wait to hear the story tomorrow! From celebrating Laura's past birthdays to working out, this couple is a prime example of perfection. No, no one is perfect. But the fact that these two have worked so damn hard to get to this point because they both wanted to be together for the rest of their lives IS the perfect relationship. Congratulations Laura and Jean!

Spring Break

Following the major portion of my life at the moment is....Spring Break! Unlike every other spring break where I sit around at home like always, I am going on an Alternative Service Break trip to the Dominican Republic!

I have always wanted to do a service trip. I finally met the deadlines and realized I wanted to go to DR because of the Outreach 360 program that helps children in Monte Cristi with literacy.

Coastline of Monte Cristi
Dela and a few other of my friends were on this trip, and I have only heard amazing stories. I am extremely excited to spend an entire week meeting the people of this town, learning more about their culture and language, as well as serving them. I cannot wait to update you all on photos, instances, and things I have learned. I know this will be a life changing event waiting to happen.

Along the fact that I was placed into this specific trip, I applied for two scholarships to ease the price. It is pricey to go out-of-country, especially with my heavy expenses with graduate school applications, transcripts, GRE fees, etc... I was fortunate to win the full award for the "Last Chance Scholarship" (for seniors) of $500! I was also awarded $100 of the Janey Musgrave Scholarship! I have never ever won a scholarship due to my personal efforts such as writing essays. I am thrilled my essay was read by the board as someone who is worth it.

I am honored to receive scholarships to pay a major portion of my trip. I am fortunate to have family and jobs to help pay off the rest. I wish it was March already :)

Antique

Dusting off the cobwebs as I reenter my favorite place, here.
I know, I know...I have not updated any of you about my oh so extravagant and fabulous life these past few months. What a shame, you missed out on so much.
I kid, I kid. You all have been spared from my exasperating, frantic, hair-turning-gray, maddening weeks which normal people call November and December.

As you all may know, I am in the process of applying to four Occupational Therapy graduate programs. Half in-state, and half (deep breath) out-of-state. I truly am passionate about this field and after volunteering and research, I believe this is my dream career. To be honest, I will not feel accomplished until I get accepted to a program in the next coming months.

Fortunately, I planned well enough to complete all my prerequisites (I had many to fulfill just to even apply!) by this past summer. This summer, I completed my final Human Anatomy & Physiology II, 75+ shadowing hours, as well as 2 research projects. Needless to say, my summer was quite booked. Unfortunately, I never got a head start on asking for recommendation letters, studying for GRE's, or writing the dreadful personal statements.

Like always, I thought I was able to complete my remaining requirements within 3.5 months before the final deadlines in early December, along with two jobs and a full course load. Joke was definitely on me.

Despite my mental breakdowns, many tears, and minor panic attacks as I forced myself to sleep (which became my only escape), I somehow managed to fully send in my applications prior to the deadlines. I will admit to any students who will pursue graduate school, start earlier than I. I did not ask 2 of my recommenders until  NOVEMBER. I just too shy and timid to directly ask my two very busy professors who I admire so much to do a favor for me. In the end, I look bad for not providing these 2 busy individuals sufficient time to meet my deadlines.

The absolute worst part of the applying process was definitely the GRE's. I only had 1 month to prepare for it, to absolutely learn the format, style of questions, formulas, vocabulary, and strategies. I am so thankful I had Delarina taking it with me, she motivated me to study. Entire October, I sacrificed most of my weekends, FUN, and even school work to study and panic for this exam. When the day came, I felt prepared, but not enough. Like everyone says, you cannot fully feel prepared. However, I wish I had done much better since I only achieved minimum if not below average scores my programs were asking for. It's just, a 5 hour exam is draining, and without any direct feedback on how you are doing, you began to start talking to yourself and loose your sanity. During my last couple of sections, my main focus was to get margaritas right after. Which Dela and I did get, along with other enjoyable treats after our exhausting day.

Second difficult part of the process, PERSONAL STATEMENTS. My fault completely for not starting early in order to utilize my resources to the fullest. I literally wrote them a week before my deadlines. I had no idea where to began, I had just kept putting it off. Along with exams, homework, and finals approaching, I had to just write. It was really difficult, what exactly were they looking for? Is my passionate direct enough? I had so much to say but not the proper wording for it. Fortunately, Jay, my brother, and kinda sorta the Writing Tutorial lady helped a lot. However, I know this was probably not the best PS I could have written to express my desire to be an occupational therapist.

Okay, I wrote enough. I feel so much more relaxed knowing 2 of my applications have been completed and sent in. It is in their hands now, and hopefully I make a positive impact :) Wish me luck xxx

Nail biting

Taking the GREs at 12:30pm tomorrow, never been so anxious or nervous or terrified. I know what I'm doing is wrong but I keep thinking about how much of a funk I will be in the second I figure out my score (if it isn't my target). I'm scared of doing bad, I don't feel confident or prepared and I wish I never have to encounter such a standardized test again after tomorrow.

Synopsis

My life has been very busy and slightly productive, and even though I'm not having a lot of fun with my friends like I should be, I know it will pay of later. I've been working a lot, 12 hrs a wk at my job on top of writing articles for my other job. I've been keeping up with my classes that heavily depend on reading outside class. I've made the gym a permanent part of my schedule as well. I have learned and managed my time with my boyfriend. After a few weeks I will do better and start seeing my lovely friends. I've applied to a community service group focusing on global health. I've started my applications, just need to get essays and gre out of the way when I get time. I've been a horrible friend and family member but let's hope I'm stress free and successful by the end of the semester :)

Not in any way am I fishing for compliments or striving to be a typical girl, but these past few days I've NOT been happy with me and how I look.

Shallow, I know.

I feel obese, disgusting, abnormal. Clothes don't look right on me. I'm not satisfied with my face, make up or no make up. I feel like every position I stand or sit is offensive to onlooker's eyes. I feel ugly! And that isn't common, I must admit I have decent self confidence. Not sure why, but I feel like I'm not beautiful like I used to feel.

Please change soon because it's a torturous feeling and thought process to be trapped in your own body.

Am I prepared or ready for the new and (in my dramatic voice) final year of my undergraduate career?

No! Class is tomorrow and I'm acting like I'm a free bird with no worries in the world, when the quite opposite is actually occurring.

Inspiring

Research Assistant

I've probably whined and complained about my complete volunteer work as an RA this summer. I did work such as hundreds of emails weekly, copy + pasting hundreds of documents, and more related tedious tasks.

I took this position wanting more experience in the research field, even though I was informed it was unpaid and I wouldn't receive school credit either. However, I wanted to work for this graduate student and somehow assist with his research, for at the end of the day, this experience was assisting me.

I received an email today from Amazon, that I've received a $50 gift card from him. I was completely surprised! I never expected such a sweet gesture, especially since I wanted to help out anyways! He seriously didn't have to do that, but it just makes me so appreciative of the people I'm surrounded by. I feel appreciated!

:)

Mon Frère

So broseph and I realized we created a kinda new tradition between us two, watch a funny movie the night (or two) before I head out to school again (since State likes to start abnormally early).

Last year it was 30 Seconds or Less with the lovely Ruth! (We had to see Aziz)
This year, we went to a garba event, dipped out real early and watched The Campaign (My love for Will).

I'm really proud of my brother, I've seen him evolve in the past few months being home. No matter what they     say, he is a damn hard worker. He used to have this temper that would scare you so bad, but he's improved himself and I've noticed he has no let his anger get the better of him.

Good job, bro

Boo! Scary eyes runs in the fam.

surprise!

It's probably because it's the summer, but I've found complete satisfaction and a new found desire in enjoying my own company.
